Studio Ghibli doesn't do a lot of things I don't like. Blocking the YouTube upload of this episode is one of them.
But in the interest of having at least SOMETHING to say about this episode, here is what I remember from it:
- The episode starts with a flashback scene
- In the flashback, Bryan and Tsuneo are meeting for the first time at a restaurant
- Tsuneo, being good friends with one of the chefs, orders some obscure cut of fish that makes Bryan sick.
- Bryan then rushes to the toilet and gets sprayed in the face with a bidet since he doesn't know how Japanese toilets work yet
- Fast-forward to the present, Bryan is waiting at a train station
- He then explains that if a train is late or even early, an apology is issued by the station manager
- Sometime later, the entire family gets ready to head out to eat at a restaurant
- They decide to head to a restaurant in a Taxi, with Bryan highlighting how Japanese taxi doors open automatically
- The restaurant they decide to eat at is the same one Tsuneo humiliated Bryan in years earlier
- The dinner goes well, with a few more cultural lessons sprinkled in
- In the end, it's revealed that the tapes Tsuneo was listening to throughout Season 1 were English language-learning tapes
- Tsuneo tells Bryan that he is proud of him, and the family happily walks home
Overall, this was a very satisfying end to the season from what I remember. I just wish I could actually watch it. Thanks Studio Ghibli.
